Microdermabrasion is term for non invasive procedure which slough off the outermost layer of dead skin. It is usually done on face, neck, chest, back, arms and hands.

Our skin is made up of two main layers: epidermis and dermis.

Epidermis is the layer with the most superficial layer of dead cells which on top of another layer of cells that are in the process of maturing. The topmost layer act as a barrier between outside world and the lower skin layers.
How does it help the skin?

The idea is that if we remove the stratum corneum - the outermost layer of the skin. The body takes it as mild injury and rushes to replace the lost skin cells with new and healthy ones. This can be done in almost every individual except for ones who have acne or other active infection. This is the best for sun damage and skin rejuvenation or in cases where instant exfoliation is required. As this procedure temporarily removes some moisture from the skin so it is followed by the application of moisturizing creams.
