Age spots or solar lentigines are small dark areas on the skin. They vary in size and usually appear on the face, hands, shoulders and arms - areas most exposed to the sun.

These are common in adults older than 50 years and may affect people of all skin types but are common in people with light coloured skin.
These are caused by hyperactive pigment cells. Ultraviolet light accelerates the production of melanin. On the areas of frequent and prolonged sun exposure, age spots appear when melanin is accumulated or is produced in high concentrations.

How does laser helps in removing age spots?

Intense pulse light therapy destroy melanin producing cells without damaging the skin surface. After laser treatment, age spots fade gradually over several weeks or months.
